When Even Hymns Get it Wrong

Let me just begin here by saying this one might create a bit of a stir. I hope I won't offend anyone with this. Here goes... *takes deep breath*
I recently remembered an incident when I was listening to the popular Fanny Crosby hymn, "Pass Me Not". My dad said, "Is this hymn scripturally sound?" I hadn't really thought of it this was before, but there are many passages that say something like, "I will never leave you nor forsake you". That really doesn't line up, does it?
I think what's happening here is that Fanny might have been letting a momentary feeling of abandonment and defeat govern over what she knew in her heart about God. Keep in mind that this is the same lady who also wrote "He hideth my soul in the cleft of the rock." Does this even line up? I don't believe God is one to hide his children's souls in the cleft of the rock only to leave us there!
The bottom line is, we can't let Satan deceive us in those times when we feel defeated and deserted. We need to remember God's promises to hide us in his truth, and never, ever to leave us. I can't emphasize that enough! What we should do in these times is try to forget our momentary feelings, surrender them to God and dwell on his promises instead of our perceived hopelessness. When we have nothing else, God's promises will get us through.
I totally agree. While God does work through spngwriters, they are only human. That being said, I think sometimes writers, like FC, say things that maybe people in crisis can understand. I have heard some doozies, though!
