We're going to do something a little different today. I'll be introducing you to a friend of mine today. Everyone, meet Megan Edgeworth! She and I have not officially met, but we became acquainted in the fall of 2020 through Ernie Haase and Signature Sound's YouTube livestream series, the Friday Night Sings. Her tastes are a lot broader than just EHSS, as you will see. One more thing before we go into the interview: she is experiencing some health challenges, so I'm sure she'd appreciate if you'd keep her in your prayers.
Q. How did you get into SG?
A. I was actually raised on bluegrass groups but am familiar through radio.
Q. Who was the first artist you saw live? Did you meet this artist?
A. Probably a close tie between my friends New Horizon and the Primitive Quartet.
Q. Who are some other artists on your bucket list to see?
A. There’s an ever-growing list.
Q. What are some of your favourite SG songs?
A. Same answer as the last question.
Q. What about songwriters?
A. My friend Reagan Riddle for starters, and also Lee Black and Scotty Inman.
Q. Do you have a good story to share from a concert (something special or funny that happened there)?
A. A friend prayed for me and the Spirit that overcame me was like just about like getting saved all over again.
Q. Within SG, do you have a favourite style (like country, bluegrass, traditional)?
A. Not really.
Q. Are there any songs like “Chain Breaker” that are not SG, but you think would work if a SG artist covered them?
A. Yes. For example, “I Got Saved” by Selah.
Q. What are some of your favourite lyrics from SG songs?
A. One I REALLY love is “God Doesn’t Care” from Greater Vision.
Q. Have you ever written a song?
A. No.
Q. If not, do you want to?
A. Yes, with God’s help.
Q. With whom would you want to write the most?
A. Lee Black.
Q. Do you have any friends that write Christian songs (SG or otherwise)?
A. Yes.
Q. All-star quartet/trio/group?
A. Female trio: the Collingsworth sisters with Kim on piano. Male trio: Chris Allman on tenor, Craig West on lead, and Mark Trammell on baritone with Trevor Conkle on piano. Mixed quartet: the members of Heart 2 Heart (or Pathfinders or Point of Honor) with Trevor Conkle on piano again.
Q. What is your favourite thing about SG as a whole?
A. Not sure I can just pick one thing.
Q. Just a crazy question: if you could fill in for Matt Fouch, what song would you want to sing?
A. I would want to do “I’d Rather Have Jesus.”
Q. What about Susan Peck Jackson?
A. I would want to do “Everybody’s Going Through Something.”
Q. What about Ernie Haase?
A. I would want to do “Oh What A Savior.”
Q. What are some of your favourite songs to sing in general?
A. “From Heaven’s Point of View” by the McGruders, “I Need to Pray” by Journey Home, “Preacher Tell Me Like It Is” by Greater Vision, “I’ll Trust the Potter’s Hands” by the Whisnants, “Nothing’s Worrying Me” by The Collingsworth Family, and “Amazing God” by Triumphant.
Q. What’s your favourite song that features Tim Rackley of the Old Paths?
A. “God’s Great.”
Q. What about Dustin Doyle of Signature Sound?
A. “Pass Me Not.”
Q. What about Kelly Nelon Clark?
A. “I’ll Talk to the Father.” It has a good message.
Q. What are some songs you can sing that you weren’t expecting to be able to?
A. There aren’t very many of those, but “Bible Loving Man” is a lot of fun.
Q. If you could put together a quartet (including a piano player) of all tenors, who would you pick to do each part?
A. Chris Jenkins on tenor, Chris Allman on lead, Thomas Nalley on baritone, Jay Parrack on bass, and Brian Free on piano.
Q. What about lead singers?
A. Bruce Taliaferro on tenor, Ronnie Booth on lead, Ivan Parker on baritone, Nick Trammell on bass, and Clayton Inman on piano.
Q. What about baritones?
A. Danny Riley on tenor, Bryan Elliott on lead, Jon Epley on baritone, Josh Singletary on bass, and Scotty Inman on piano.
Q. What about basses?
A. Chris West on tenor, Ian Owens on lead, Matt Fouch on baritone, Ray Dean Reese on bass, and Will Lane on piano.
Q. What about piano players?
A. Josh Singletary on tenor, Anthony Burger on lead, Stan Whitmire on baritone, Tim Parton on bass, and Les Butler on piano.
Q. Just for fun, let’s do the ladies’ parts too. 😊 What about sopranos?
A. Karen Peck on tenor, Kim Hopper on lead, Brooklyn Blair on baritone, Sonya Isaacs-Yeary on bass, and Amber Eppinette-Saunders on piano.
Q. What about altos?
A. Courtney Collingsworth-Metz on tenor, Susan Peck-Jackson on lead, Libbi Stuffle on baritone, Debra Talley on bass, and Eva Mae LeFevre on piano.
Q. If you could learn any instrument, what would you want it to be?
A. I used to play the clarinet, so something similar to that.
Q. If you could organize a duet between two vocalists, whom would you pick and what would you want them to sing?
A. For one, Lynda Randle and Daniel Ashmore. I would want them to sing “I’m Free” or “Child of the King.”
Q. Do you have a favourite hymn?
A. “And Can it Be.”
Q. What groups could we find you listening to a lot on Spotify?
A. The Primitives, Legacy Five, and Signature Sound, just to name a few.
Q. Talk about some songs that mean a lot to you at this point in your life.
A. One is “The Healer Hasn’t Lost His Touch” by Tribute. The last line of the last verse of this song means a lot to me: “I’m living proof!” Another one, also by Tribute is “Fear Not.” The reason these songs mean so much to me is because I was born with spina bifida and am believing for a healing for that. Lead singer Gary Casto had a brother with spina bifida (who passed away), so I would like to meet Gary someday. Another one is “Between the Prayer and the Answer” from the LeFevre Quartet. I know answering prayer is just what God does, but it’s a good reminder for those who need a fresh way of looking at the big picture. It is truly amazing to know that this same God actually loves and cares about sinful humanity. I love “He Looked Beyond My Fault” for the same reason. Also “God’s Great” by the Old Paths, because “God’s been good… but on second thought, God’s great!” “Champion of Love” for the same reason. I like “Love Took His Breath Away” by Signature Sound because of John 3:16. 😊 Their song “Longing for Home” also speaks to me because I look forward to the day when we can leave this negativity behind.
Q. What is your favourite Bible verse?
A. One of them is Matthew 28:20— “and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Q. If you could put together a band of SG instrumentalists, who would play what instrument?
A. Daniel Ashmore on saxophone, Trevor Conkle on piano, Brandon Reese on bass, Kelly Vaughn on acoustic guitar, and Dustin Doyle on electric.
Q. What are some other random things you want readers to know about you?
A. My favourite season is summer. My top 5 ice cream flavours are chocolate chip cookie dough, peppermint, vanilla, milk and cookies, and butter pecan. The weirdest pizza topping I like is macaroni and cheese with white sauce—I didn’t expect to like it! Speaking of cheese, some of my favourite kinds are Swiss, Gouda, and parmesan. My favourite cake is angel food cake. One of my favourite books is “Spring’s Gentle Promise” by Janette Oke.
Q. Any random trivia you’d like to share?
A. It is recommended that you eat frozen yogurt and ice cream with a plastic spoon as opposed to metal because it cuts down on brain freeze and you can also enjoy the flavour more, especially if it’s soft-serve.
Q. Do you like any other genres besides SG?
A. Some. I like some country songs. I also have a CD of songs set to ocean sounds but I’m not sure what genre that would be. I also love classical and Christmas instrumental songs. Some contemporary Christian songs I like are “Rise Again,” “I Can Only Imagine,” “This Is Amazing Grace,” and “You Are My All in All,” “I Got Saved,” “Jesus Saves,” and “Legacy by Nichole Nordeman.
Q. If you were called up on stage at a Signature Sound concert, what song would you want to sing?
A. “We Shall See Jesus.”
Q. What about The Old Paths?
A. “God’s Great.”
Q. What about KPNR?
A. “I Choose Christ.”
Q. What about Joseph Habedank? (Or if you were to do a duet with him, what would it be?)
A. Song choices would be “Never No Never” and “Here He Comes.” For a duet, maybe “If You Knew Him.”
Q. What about the Erwins?
A. “Like I’m On the Shore.”
Q. What about the Wisecarvers?
A. “Don’t You Think You Ought to Worship Me.”
Q. What about the Collingsworth Family?
A. I love singing “Nothing’s Worrying Me!”
Q. What about Canton Junction?
A. “The Son Shines Down on Me.”
Hope you enjoyed getting to know Megan better!
