I had the pleasure of attending a Legacy Five concert several weeks ago. If you aren't familiar with the group, the lineup at the time was Josh Feemster (tenor), Scott Fowler (lead), Scott Howard (baritone), Matt Fouch (bass) and Josh Townsend (piano) -- past tense because this was the last concert Josh F. and Scott H. did with the group. It goes without saying that this was a special night. Highlights include:
Who Is This Man: A song that effectively covers Jesus' ministry and I believe it was written by one of the group members but I can't remember for sure. (Help?)
I Trust The Cross: This song features Fowler and is a powerful reminder to... trust the cross. (Surprise!!)
Great Medley: A medley combining "Great Is Thy Faithfulness", "How Big Is God", and "How Great Thou Art". An absolute must-listen. The guys, especially Josh F. and Matt, really raised the roof on this one (not sure if that sounds like a good thing or not but it was!!!)
Lost In God's Grace: Scott H. performed this, and it was a neat moment as he was a founding member of the group (which has been on the road for 20 years!) This is such a well-written song!
God's Been Good: JT shared his testimony prior to singing and playing this song, which made for what I would say was hands-down the best highlight of the evening. For a 21-year-old (or anybody, really) JT has been through so much that I'd never be able to explain it all on here. That would make for a whole other blog post so look it up on YouTube. :)
I'm Getting Ready to Leave This World: JT played this song. Amazing solo. How amazing was it, exactly? Well, he seems to have used an arrangement similar to the one the late Anthony Burger played on the Gaither Canadian Homecoming. Any minor changes that may have been made certainly wouldn't have made it any easier... and he NAILED IT!
Well Done, My Child: Fowler pulled out a hymnal he got from his dad's church for this one. Partway through, he "accidentally" sang his part wrong. JT stopped him and took over the lead part for him. I've seen a video of this before, but somehow I thought Fowler was still singing after that. Oops.
Champion Of Love: Of COURSE they had to do a Cathedrals song! Fowler is a former member of that group, so that's a must. Their arrangement of that is absolutely AMAZING! Josh Feemster's strong tenor vocals sure added to that!
He Made A Change: Cathedrals Song #2. :) Super fun!
If you get the chance to see Legacy Five in concert, do it!!! Their new lineup, with songwriter Lee Black on tenor and Bryan Walker on baritone, is pretty awesome too. Look them up! :)
