Okay, so I know I've been absent from blogging for a while. Life gets busy, you know. But never fear, good citizens. Part of the reason I've been so busy is because I've been at lots of concerts lately... which is good news for this blog! This first post in a couple months is dedicated to recapping a recent Gaither Vocal Band concert I attended. I haven't seen them live since Family Fest 2017 and was it ever a treat! They were just as top-notch as ever and I think this is my favourite lineup ever! So, on to some of the song highlights.
Hallelujah Band- a fun, snappy tune from their new CD, "We Have This Moment". I wanted them to do this, and without even having to request it, they did! Adam got to show off his incredible harmonica skills on this. :)
Winds of this World- Speaking of Adam and his harmonica skills, this is a great feature of his, and it leads to some great comedy routine from the guys!
We'll Talk it Over- I absolutely LOVE hearing Reggie sing this one! It really complements his vocal style and shows how this lineup is really something special.
Because He Lives- Not the arrangement they usually use, as they decided to use the one they sang at Billy Graham's funeral instead. Not quite as powerful, but again, you really can never go wrong with this bunch!
It Is Finished- Ooh man! Can they ever nail this one! They formerly had the tenor vocalist sing the last verse, but since Reggie joined, Adam usually carries from his feature on the fourth verse right into that one. Not sure what accounted for the change, but it doesn't really matter to me either way. :)
It wouldn't really be a Gaither Vocal Band concert without showing off their band. And sure enough...
Goodbye, World, Goodbye- I think this may be one of the more "overplayed" piano solos, but as long as one of the greats (e.g. Matthew Holt) is behind the keys, as in this case, no complaints here!
Orange Blossom Special- Kevin Moore... oh my! Bill usually says he is the best fiddle player ever, or something like that, and I definitely do not think that is an exaggeration whatsoever. He launched into this right after intermission, so it was really funny seeing the guys go into this impromptu dance party! It started with Todd, who didn't really do much of anything. Then Wes pulled his infamous "Carlton" dance, and it kept getting crazier and crazier until Reggie did a headstand... not even kidding! Unfortunately, none of us were quick enough with the camera to get any photographic evidence for you, so you'll just have to take my word for it!
So that's that. It was over two months ago now, so I have sadly forgotten most of the songs they did. Oh well.
*Also -- my sincere apologies about the out-of-focus picture. It was really dark in there, so the pics we got weren't that great.*
