Well, here we go with CD review #2. This CD also released in September. I got so behind on reviews because of all the concerts. However, that shouldn't happen again for a while. The Wisecarvers are an up-and-coming family group comprised of husband and wife Vince and Tammy, their sons Dustin and Chase and daughter-in-law Kaila. All but one of the songs are written by the family members. Anyway- let's get on with the review!
Begin With You- The perfect title for an opening track if there is one. It's about how it's never the wrong time to surrender your life to God- you never know when it's going to be too late. This one features Chase.
Jesus to Me: This song talks about how the world misunderstands the true mission and nature of Jesus and what he's done in our lives. Kaila is featured.
Best of Forever: One of the standouts (actually, don't even get me started on those!), it also features Chase and is about how we get to experience the "best of forever" (heaven) because God saved us from hell. It's the group's current single, so some of you may have heard it on the radio. If not, you're missing out! My only "complaint" is how infrequently my iTunes playlist selects this one...
When You Look At Me- This amazing song features Kaila and is written as a question to God, asking him if his plans for us our fulfilled by ow we live our lives.
Silhouette- The title cut of the song, and the source of the album's cool graphics. :) It features Chase. This one is another prayer song, this time asking God to shine in our lives until all people can see in our lives is him. I think it was the CD's first single.
You Have My Attention- Another one that features Chase and is stylistically very similar to Best of Forever. It speaks of how we should turn to God when there are trials in our lives, and how he is more than willing to listen to us when we do so.
Go Down Again- Part of me wants this to be my all-time favourite from this CD, but the other part of me can't decide! :) The first verse chronicles the story of Naaman's healing from leprosy and what he may have been thinking as he had to keep going down into that water. The second verse is, again, about how trials can bring us closer to God. This one features Kaila.
Manufactured Smiles- This one features Chase and it's about how even when we pretend everything is OK and we don't have any struggles, God sees right through the facade. But he can heal even what we think is a too-far-gone situation.
Love You Still- This song says that even when we are going through trials and don't feel blessed, we can (and should) still trust God. One of the more upbeat songs on the CD and a very thought-provoking lyric.
Someone Else's Valley- This song is about what I thought it was when I first read the title: Even when things are going good in your life, don't forget that there are others who are struggling and feeling like God has forgotten them. Again, this features Chase.
Potter's Wheel- Another standout. The potter's wheel is often used as a metaphor for God shaping us through what we experience in life. The song features Chase.
Amazing Grace- Yes, this is the popular hymn. :) It combines Dustin's excellent harmonica playing (which also graces several other tracks in the background) with alternating solos from each of the family members. Speaking of which, I wonder why we didn't hear more from them on this CD. They are all, in my opinion, equally talented. Oh well. I guess that just makes me enjoy this song even more. Dustin also arranged this and I think he did a great job. :)
