This album review is going to be shorter than my typical ones because the album I'm reviewing today is an EP: How Good does Grace Feel by Brian Free & Assurance. The trio is comprised of Brian Free (tenor), Bill Shivers (lead) and Mike Rogers (baritone). They may be progressive compared to the average SG artist, but I have been a fan for the past few years. Anyway, moving right along...
1: This Storm- The current single, this one features Bill and talks about how God brings us through trials in our lives. It's upbeat and fun and a great listen!
2: Without Jesus- This one features Brian and asks how unsaved people can survive daily life when they don't have Jesus there to help them. Without hesitation, this one goes into the must-listen category!
3: Helpless- This song features Bill, and similarly to the last one, says that even in the valley, if you have enough faith to pray, you can get through anything. It's slow and reflective and is sure to give you courage for whatever you face!
4: How Good Does Grace Feel- The title cut and Mike's first feature. It compares the fear and loneliness of the old life to the new life and grace the Christian life brings. There is so much truth to this song!
5: Even If The Healing Doesn't Come- Mike's other feature, and I think it picks up where tracks 1 and 3 left off: it says that God is still good even when he lets you suffer. I would also put this into the must-listen category.
6: Only God Knows- I guess this one has become a BFA standard, although I wasn't super familiar with it, because as I mentioned, I'm sort of a newer fan. Actually, I found a video of it on YouTube a while back, but I didn't watch the whole video because it made me so sad I had to stop! That said, I was fine with listening to it now. At first I thought it was a tribute to those who died in early childhood or maybe were stillborn, but it didn't take me long to realize that it's actually about the abortion epidemic. It's not a subject that is touched on much, but it's important! Brian sings this one, and it's a very thought-provoking way to end the CD.
I've seen other reviewers say that this CD is only for the most dedicated of fans, so I guess I fall into that category! If you think you do, this one's for you.
